All At Sea 04:26
All at Sea It’s all agreed we’re all at sea and there’s no reason here Salted seas of choking weeds, the Devil boils this ocean Prayed to the Gods of rain and storms of imagined needs and fashion We rode the waves to take us slaves and called this civilisation We all ride here, we all ride here, we all ride here On this dying dark ocean Hearts of oak and fire and smoke, waves of war and torture Blown to your knees by holy breeze, sense the souls a sighing Oh God of sea and all disease, oh God of pain and aging Feed our needs with holy creeds and pleas for interventions And we all pray here, we all pray here, we all pray here For an end to this ocean Sail, sail away, sail away, sail away It’s all agreed we’re all at sea and there’s no meaning here Flash the flags lashed to the mast for Queen Chance and old King Random Don’t believe that fantasies will solve this situation ‘Cause there’s no way to sail away from the ocean on which we’re sailing Now all I hear, all I hear, all I hear Is the call of the ocean Sail, sail away, sail away, sail away, sail away, sail away
2.
Gulls (Stranded) We are stranded, and we’ve never seen the sea We are stranded, we’re too far away to see We scavenge, of little benefit to you And we just want out from wherever you want us to be We are pecking, we are pecking at shreds Of dirty newspapers and discarded take-aways We are diving and flocking in the streets And we want our freedom though we don’t know what that means Some say we’re living in a nest of feathered ease Some say they’re paying that we’re vermin just to feed But who knows, here goes, we’ll rain it down on you Untamed, bird-brained, we’re shitting on your chips And you don’t get us and we’ve had enough of you We could be flying but we have nowhere to go We could be flying but we’re fat on chicken wings Our territory, unhealthy and ignored And we don’t see change and we don’t get help from you But we never get our way so we’ll vote from a great height on you
3.
This Year’s Rain This year’s rain, proved too much for us And when the landslip came, the truth it covered us Though the moon will still rise, the moon will rise This year’s flood, came to carry us To a world of mud, we realised That we weren’t happy at all, we weren’t happy at all They all said it’s so sad It’s so sad So sad So sad So Sad So sad So Sad Two days born, more than sad for us A crushing harm, nothing left for us And the lights go down the blinds are drawn The light is all gone and nothing is any good It’s so sad So sad So sad So Sad So sad So sad So sad So Sad
4.
God’s Empty Chair Here we are facing God’s empty chair Hey you could take another lover Like a child reaching through the dark Look to hold his absent right hand Here we are, we kneel before the air We thought that we had heard the call We thought it personal, no not inside our heads Maybe outside of our minds Here we are with our love for sun (son?) and stars Three becomes one and dissolves into none Here we are with our complicated tears Offer simple faith and prayers for solutions Here we are, our expectations soured Hey we could raise another idol Could be a long wait or our invitation scorned Say take your pick, choose a shovel Under the legs of God’s empty chair We are drowning and anointing with water Stare at the seat of God’s empty chair We are guessing and going on alone
5.
Never Quite Lose Me You will never quite lose me I will never quite go away No matter how confusing In your background scenery I’ll be there as part of you I’ll be there pushing your heart I’ll be there despite of you I’ll be there wasting your time You would not admit that I have helped you get this far But like or not I’m part of who you are I won’t demand attention Or stretch memories to yawns and sighs I’m no guarding choir of angels Looking down from your sky I’ll be there as part of you In your eyes and the colour of your hair Won’t be there beside of you But I’ll be there cheering your side I don’t understand you and that’s just the way it goes But while I’m here you’ll never be alone

The Green Apple Ball Here come the girls again kissing for hours Spilling and spinning the glitter ball flowers One couple faceless blanked for art’s sake And all that springs is summer Dancers skip silently down helical stairs Future and youth here strung out like pearls Balloon man, juggler flicking out cards And all that winds is sideways And like every moment This time won’t come again The time to be twenty And time out time again At the green apple ball Scrumping and bobbing, swirling apples in pairs Man with the crystal ball dance round his hands Candles, charity, parent and prayers The sight of youth a-spending And few know the way And few hear the call And some come of age At the Green Apple Ball At the splintered glass ball Vertical power, Marxist, Feminist It all got lost for the upper-class Communists Now when you dance all in white you tune in to God Crab apple sour, saline lemonade A younger guitar, a fighting serenade Feminine scents when you dance you turn into Gods Here come the girls again kissing for hours Painting, pressing, the glitter ball flowers White linen faces blanked for art’s sake And all that springs is summer And all that winds is sideways The sight of youth a-spending The sound of judgement suspended

Here Be Dragons Sail away from the sideboard’s dusty flowers From the doilies and the wax fruit and the bells Sail away from decay and jobs and lovers Bring down the night shades on all our old beliefs So sing another song boys You who say you love the girls Sing another song boys Is this longing and desire, the only tight wire The only life sign to shake the lice and drink the lime We heard it all, of nature and religion Saw mystic symbols and so many sacred signs We hear the heroes brought freedom to the candles And in the morning not a single one was saved So sing another song boys You who say you love the girls Sing another song boys Is this longing and desire only cold fire The only true shore-line, to help you dull the siren’s song Burn the lifeboats, smash the compass, tie the madmen Keep a straight watch, throw the horses overboard Wash the corpses in the last of the sweet wine See the edge of the world dissolving in the sky Land, land ho Land, land ho So in this ship, don’t ever ask for shelter On this ship don’t ever look to stay Here be men, here be God and here be dragons Here be mirrors, here be donkeys, here be slaves So sing another song boys If you really love the girls Sing another song boys Is this longing and desire The only tight wire Only cold fire Our only tight rope Our only high wire Our only vague hope Hoo-ray and up she rises early in the morning
8.
The Girl I Know A girl I know was drowned in the sea I hear The girl I know was drowned in the sea The girl I know changed her name I hear I don’t know what she became The King of Keen chasing the Queen of ‘no’ The King of Keen courting the Queen Out of reach, through distance and time The boys I know all wasted her time The mist won’t lift On the tides of love affairs And sand will shift Through the glass and river bed For the girl I know the flowers they come and go For the girl I know the mourners grow old The girl I know sent me the leaves to sow So long ago but now so clear And all I want Is to make the world again Rule time and sand and sea And always save the girl The girl I know, now Queen of the Sky round here The girl I know now Queen of the Sky

Fade 03:30
Fade Like a grazed knee you will fade Like the paper in a cage Like a picture on a plate A cool head remembering A stone heart beating Now you’re not here Now you’re not here For all I ever fought Imaginary walls Had no need for feeling Had no fear of sinking I thought I would be the first to go, not you It seems I’ve been caught out again Seems that the sun’s gone again A burning paper plane A chalk line in the rain Memories will fade A cold heart manoeuvring An old heart healing Now you’re not here Now you’re not here An ordinary fall, for the boy who fought a war An ordinary leaving A necessary passing I thought I would be the first to go, not you It seems I’ve been caught out again Seems that the sun’s down again One more day That I must stay
10.
The Moor 03:59
The Moor The town glows with empty colours Traffic lights and empty shops and neon by the storm Lone roads, flashing blows And I see the colours of the moor Winter, windy colours Purple, pink, a thousand shades of grey and granite wall Bone roads, dry wall stones And I see colours not yet born I sleep under sheets of rain Blankets of heather, sunken lanes Pillows of clouds crow and pain Quilt of snow, roofless loss and blame Rainbow, milky sunset I live these things, what seasons bring, they seep in through the wall Time flows, changes blow But I feel the darkness of the moor Sunrise, empty doorways Open skies, horizon’s eyes, single flame of coal Don’t gos, nagging colds But I feel the calling of the moor I sleep on a floor of field Carpet of frost, chair of moss Curtains of mist, frozen wax Bed of flowers, thorns of futures lost And I see the colours of the moor I see the colours not yet born I feel the darkness of the moor But I feel the calling of the moor
11.
Rainbow Rise 04:45
Rainbow Rise We have our histories and we have our feelings We have ourselves and now we have each other Streaming through the streets, we’re all in love Feed back through my dreams, we’re all in love Thoughts exploring Through the frosted glass, the bottled gas of bitter desire Feel like talking We are the counterblast, the made to last, memory’s eyes Rainfall through the years, washed us here Home for us is here, yeah we all came here This is our time, this is our town, and everyone’s here Let the rainbow rise in the cold grey sky This is our high and we’re all living here And we’ve all come here to remember Shine, we are the light, we see the sky And we’re altogether here Streaming through the streets, we’re all in love Feed back through my dreams, we’re all in love This is our time, this is our town, and everyone’s here Let the rainbow rise in the cold grey sky This is our high and we’re all living here And we’ve all come here to remember Shine, we are the light, we see the sky And we’re altogether here
12.
You Said 02:25
You Said Lyrics You said to never write a song for you And that’s OK ‘Cos you never listened anyway And you’re not listening now You said to never ride along with you And that’s OK Cos I ride alone now anyway Now you’re so far away Now you’re so gone away

about

THE FIREMAN SPACEMAN MERMAID ALBUM is the first album from the Sunny Smiles Three, a band from Leeds (UK) named after the 1960s / 1970s charity fundraising scheme Sunny Smiles – black and white pictures of small children torn out of a booklet to take home in return for money…

Possibly the world’s leading alt-indie acoustic folk-rock trio singing mainly about death and the meaning of life, the Sunny Smiles Three are drums, bass and acoustic guitar - recorded mostly live in the studio with occasional guests splattering bits of keyboards. With singing on top. Often surrounded by a train set.

Lo-fi (and slightly higher-fi) videos made by the band / Hoam Maid Films will appear on their YouTube channel around the release date - for every track on the album.

FR Records say “Add some I Am Kloot to Wilco, fold in a bit of Billy Bragg and an eggcup of alt folk, take away the number you first thought of - and it still sounds like its own thing”.

The CD includes the recent Loveland EP as additional tracks.
